This is the first option in the New Analysis screen of iCite:
Enter keywords, author names, year ranges, Medical Subject Heading terms, etc. into the first search bar under "Search PubMed" and click "Process" to search for publications in iCite. A maximum of 10,000 records can be queried at a time in this option; the limit is based on the PubMed API, which is used to execute this search. If your search has more than 10,000 results, you will only see the first 10,000 PMIDs in your iCite results (see more details below). Alternatively, if you do have a list of PMIDs, you can use one of the other two options on the New Analysis screen. These options can query up to 50,000 PMIDs at a time.
Because search queries (utilizing the first option: Search PubMed) are routed through PubMed, by default, all fields are used when searching for a term, whether that be a keyword or author name, etc. You are not required to specify fields or create a complex query but if you do wish to do so, the most efficient process to do this is to use the Advanced Search PubMed link to build the query, then copy what is populated in the PubMed query box and paste the text as is into the iCite search bar (seen above).
Example query built in PubMed:
Text to paste into the iCite search bar:
(Santangelo, George[Author]) OR (Santangelo, G[Author])
If more than 10,000 PMIDs are found in your results, you will receive a notification and can choose to amend your search criteria (cancel) or continue:
If you continue, you will receive an error message stating not all of the requested data was found:
